Didn’t get a junior year summer internship, what next?

Recruiting season is coming to an end and I haven’t gotten an internship for my junior summer. What do people usually do? Should I kiss my IB dream goodbye?

Hustle for an off cycle internship that you can hold during the year while doing coursework. If you can string two internships together (regional M&A boutiques are your best bet) or even better— one year long gig, you could probably swing your experience for FT recruiting next summer— Just network super early.

You gotta hustle if you want I. after undergrad and there’s still ways, albeit unconventional, to do it. If you want to get into the big name banks however it’s going to come down to your networking ability to get people on the inside to vouch for you. That won’t happen if you don’t have at least some off cycle internships going on. Just my 2cents.

You can broaden your search to some kind of finance work in the summer and then apply to IB for FT positions.
