Do you actually say you’re at capacity?
I always sweated more than everyone I worked with and know I’m not slow, I’m decent at the job. I now wonder if the reason I have is because I never said I’m at capacity. I always assumed that you weren’t actually supposed to say that. Are people saying they’re at capacity if they’re working to 10pm? Is that why they’re never sweating? This might be fried but I’m basically just asking for people to say whether they told they’re staffed they’re at capacity and if this is common.
You do both yourself and your teams a disservice if you don't communicate capacity. In this job, it is far better to send great work up the chain to your associate / VP for 2-3 staffings versus sending okay work up for 5-6 staffings. Your seniors do not care how many deals you worked on, but rather the quality of work that you do on their deals. I was top-bucket both my analyst years at GS, and I consistently pushed back on staffings due to capacity. I will note that you can only really get away with this if you have a reputation for doing good work, though it's easier to develop one if you aren't consistently doing rush-jobs and can focus more on your work.
Completely agree but how do you manage that as a first year analyst who's only been on the job for 5 months. (ignore title)
