Does having your own company help you secure IB roles? Current Sophomore in University.
I go to a target school and am hoping to secure a junior year internship as an analyst at a BB. I run my own company which profits about 50K a year.
How do I spin this in an IB interview? How specific would you get on the resume with earnings etc, without coming off as braggy. I have been running the company for about 4 years now and we make about 1000 sales a year with a 60% profit margin. Are these things to mention on a resume or interview? Or is it too specific.
Entrepreneurial endeavors are generally seen as a positive. just a few things to be cautious about:
- I would mention it on your resume and if they care enough they'll ask about it
- It may become an issue regarding time management, prepare an answer that this line of work won't interfere with your permanent gig
- Some interviewers will simply be jealous of your achievement; be prepared for these type of people as well. Some line managers can't stand the fact when someone beneath them achieve higher/different goals
- Don't come across as an entrepreneur only; if they sense you are into making a life on your own, they may not hire you
