Doing a summer internship in IB, is it weird if I bring my textbook with me?
Hi, I am doing an internship this coming summer. I have a working in the FIG field and my business school had classes around financial institutions modeling and drivers, etc. Is it weird if I bring my textbook with me to the internship?
Based on previous WSO threads, bringing a textbook to your internship might come across as unusual and potentially unnecessary. Instead, consider these alternatives:
Use Notes or Digital Resources: If you've prepared notes or summaries from your textbook, these can be more practical and discreet. For example, one WSO thread suggests bringing a notebook or accessing cloud storage for quick reference to your personal notes or key concepts.
Leverage Training Materials: Many internships, especially in investment banking, provide comprehensive training sessions and materials during the first week. These resources are tailored to the firm's methodologies and are often more relevant than academic textbooks.
Ask Questions: If you're stuck on a concept, don't hesitate to ask your team. Bankers are generally open to answering questions and providing guidance, as highlighted in internship survival tips shared on WSO.
Keep It Professional: If you feel the need to reference your textbook, do so outside of work hours or during breaks. Bringing a physical textbook to the desk might give off the impression that you're unprepared or overly reliant on academic material.
In summary, while it's not "weird," it might not be the most effective approach. Focus on adapting to the firm's resources and environment, and use your textbook as a supplementary tool outside of work hours.

Okay let’s pretend this was rage bait. Was it rage bait because it obviously doesn’t matter, or is it rage bait because it’s obviously weird. Asking for a friend

No definitely do it. Make sure to raise your desk all the way up, stand at it, and do curls with your textbook to assert intelligent dominance. Guaranteed RO
