Dumbest/weirdest thing you’ve done or said in a coffee chat?

So I know there’s a thread for interviews, but I find coffee chat stories even funnier. You’re supposed to be putting your best foot forward, but sometimes you trip.

For me, it was a little while back when I had a call with an IB analyst who I was having a bit of trouble understanding (accent). Really great guy, but I was getting a little nervous that I wouldn’t be able to understand/contribute to what he was saying when he started talking faster. He ends his point asking how old I was, and somehow, through my nerves, I fucking forgot. I stumbled for a good few seconds going back and forth between my previous age and my current age, having gone fully blank, and eventually I finally spat (the right age) out. Truly one that I’ll never wrap my head around.

Would love to hear other people’s awkward, funny, or unusual responses during coffee chats.

I was at a coffee chat with a female associate and I was told to give out compliments to get people to like you. I objectively found her pretty but didn't want that to sound weird but also wanted to give a compliment so I just blurted out as soon as we shook hands, "You look beautiful". She blushed and said thank you but then shortly after, she was kind of uncomfortable. Not really sure what he thought of me afterwards because I ended up getting an offer from the firm but I obviously never brought it up again lol

I get very weird around beautiful women...

Will update my computer soon and leave Incognito so I will disappear forever. How did I achieve Neanderthal by trolling? Some people are after me so need to close account for safety.

I am ripping my heart out in front of you and you bark at me? I am a lion and you're going to hear me ROAR:

ROAR ROAR ROAR!

Not really something I did but what the associate did. Was interning in NYC (not with a bank) and reached out to someone to have a coffee chat after work. He came up with the idea to get some beers and he invited his coworkers too. Long story short he ended up blacking out and one of the analysts he was fucking was venting to me about him. Weird interaction overall.

damn must’ve been a fucking weird situation especially being an intern back then

Not something I did, but something random that happened to me. Was at a coffee chat with an associate at the bank I was interested in, and we were sitting outside. While discussing, someone in one of those T-rex costumes came up and started dancing next to our table and it made it very difficult to concentrate for a good 5 minutes. Nothing bad happened but it was pretty funny in the moment.

I'd love to hear stories from the other side of the table...do any analyst/associates have anything funny?

"Markets can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent."

Make a separate thread about An and As funny stories. Would get good traction...

I accidentally spilled coffee on my white shirt. Not too bad, except I had just come from a previous coffee chat that gave out these Tide stain pens. For some reason, I thought it was a good idea to use the Tide pen while I was talking to the associate. I was repeatedly stabbing myself in the stomach (the thing didn't really work) while chatting with the associate about their environment/culture/some bs
