EB Lateral Interview
Have an upcoming interview at an EB (EVR/CV/PJT) and am wondering what to expect. What kind of questions to expect during the interview? Expect it will be largely about talking about prior deal experience. Will there be a modeling test to follow? Any insight is appreciated.
bump please
Gonna be honest, it depends on the group you're talking with and also you're background. I spoke with one of the banks you mentioned, and it was a pretty casual chat. Ultimately made it to the short list but didnt get it.
Obviously have a stock pitch ready, know why it's run up/fallen over the past year. Go through mgmt quarterly transcripts to get a sentiment of how they feel about the industry and if their thoughts/tone of voice have changed over the past few quarters (this is feedback i got from one of the associates. Know where you are versus the street.)
Know the drivers of the industry for your stock pitch, multiples, etc. These groups typically also focus on fit, since there is less turnover. So be genuine.
The short modeling test i got from the boutique was quick, had 25 mins to complete it. Consistent of a mock IS and metrics, along with some excel stuff. Other case studies I've done for other ER positions have been up to a week, but they weren't excel based.
I think this guy is interviewing for banking roles... would never be asked for a stock pitch. I don't even think pjt and cvp have a trading division
oh shit i read EB as ER. my bad lol
Questions will be a crap shoot based on whom you get, but expect a mix of technicals, deal discussion, and “why our bank?”
Modeling test will either be some combination of 3 statement, merger, and LBO.
Thanks for the insight. Figured the standard technicals were behind us in the lateral process but guessing I should brush up then?
Definitely. Bankers aren’t the most creative interviewers.
Recently interviewed with two of the banks you mentioned for a lateral role - make sure your 3 statement modeling is solid
To discuss during the interview or modeling test to follow? Like do you mean be able to speak to it very well for several 3 statement questions or is the model afterwords difficult.
