EDGAR SEC Alternative

Hey everyone - I've started to build out a low cost tool that allows analyst to easily navigate SEC filings, download tables, get company alerts etc etc.  It is called Profitdent and I'm looking for some feedback. If anybody has some thoughts on how to improve it, please let me know!

One of the most useful things about Bamsec is I can highly any text and create a link to it. I see that you can do it for tables with your site, but not for any text within the filing. In terms of paying...since most of the big firms would use Bamsec, this would have to be tailored for either individuals or teams within non-financial institutions like IR or corp dev. Our budgets are significantly lower than high finance for these type of things, and we already pay for a lot - Excel plugins, CapIQ, Gartner, equity research, etc. I can imagine this being different tiers, ie Tier 1 is simply being able to view all the filings with the ability to link to text within the document (free tier), and then for watchlist/notifications/downloads, you could add a paid tier for those people that are more serious about their use.

This is actually really good. I also know that BamSEC recently upped their pricing, so if you just recreate their product for cheaper (which it seems like you're pretty much doing), you could prob take some serious market share away from them. Key updatss needed:

  • Text highlighting and URL creation
  • Other documents (i.e. investor presentations, financial supplements) which aren't always filed with SEC
  • Ability to search all documents (BamSEC has a box where you can type any word and it will search the entire database for anytime it comes up in a company documents)

The search feature cannot be understated. Especially because what BamSEC also has is Transcripts of earnings calls/other investor calls - where you can look for information not straight ahead laid out in filings.

One thing that would be helpful that BamSEC rarely has is investor presentations - an easy way to quickly access these would be great, though unclear if it's easily scraped from EDGAR.
