Email Referral

Not sure if this scenario has been posted before but currently I am interning at a medium sized government agency and one of my supervisors has a friend that works with people on Wall Street. This friend knows many people that work in IB. My supervisor told me to write up an email to send to him and then he will forward it to his friend.

How do I go about writing this email? Do I write it like in first person or write it in the point of view as my supervisor...?

Also, I want to intern in IB next summer, but do I just be direct... like can you help me find an internship? Not quite sure how to go about this. Please let me know I am kind of new to this!

Thanks so much for your help!

Write it in the first person explaining to him what you are looking for in a future internship. He is just going to take your email and forward it to whatever contacts he has to make an introduction. Don't be too specific in terms of bank or group interest as you don't know if he will be forwarding it to someone at a BB or MM bank. Explain your desire to be in IB, why you want to work in IB and passively mention a little about your background. Something along the lines of, "I feel that my experience in XYZ club/class at XYZ School positions me as a strong candidate for an IB internship"

Keep it brief but descriptive.
