Energy Ib London

Putting balance sheet banks aside, I know Roths, Jeff, and HL are the dominant players in Energy (Oil & Gas) in London. How do the others stack up?

I’ve seen that Evercore and Moelis have decently sized energy teams (and PJT seems a bit small), but I rarely hear about them advising on major deals, especially in the Upstream sector. What’s the outlook for an energy finance career at EVR or Moelis compared to the top shops?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, Rothschild, Jefferies, and Houlihan Lokey are indeed recognized as dominant players in Energy (Oil & Gas) in London. When it comes to Evercore and Moelis, they do have energy teams, but their presence in the sector, particularly in the Upstream space, appears less prominent compared to the top-tier players you mentioned.

Evercore and Moelis are known for their strong M&A and restructuring capabilities, which can be advantageous in energy finance, especially during periods of market volatility or downturns. However, their deal flow in the energy sector, particularly in London, may not match the volume or visibility of Rothschild, Jefferies, or Houlihan Lokey. PJT Partners, as you noted, has a smaller energy team and is less frequently associated with major deals in this space.

For a career in energy finance at Evercore or Moelis, the outlook can still be promising, especially if you're interested in broader M&A or restructuring opportunities that may extend beyond traditional energy coverage. However, if your goal is to specialize deeply in Oil & Gas, particularly in Upstream, the more established players like Rothschild, Jefferies, and Houlihan Lokey might offer better exposure and deal flow in London.

evr energy team is pretty solid. strong presence in africa and Middle East - they did the aramco ipo and jafurah leaseback deal. and strong presence in european energy services and european sustainable fuels. they have carved up a strong niche for themselves

Barely do any upstream stuff. It’s all energy transition crap which nobody cares about.

Interesting take on EVR. How about Moelis London? I’ve heard they have a decent-sized team, but their Upstream track record in the North Sea or Africa seems almost non-existent lately
