Euro Lender SA -> FT Recruiting

Currently a summer analyst at a lender (think BNP/Credit Ag/SMBC/Santander/MUFG) in NYC and realized that I really love banking but want more out of it than I know I’ll get if I return to where I’m at. Any advice on how to approach full time recruiting and when to start preparing/networking without it being frowned upon by whomever I am trying to recruit (i.e. I look like a candidate who is just trying to seek out the next best thing), and when I should expect the FT recruitment of better banks to ramp up, or if processes have already begun at certain places.
