Evercore M&A Recruiting
Anyone here currently or incoming at Evercore that can speak on the recruiting process? Rising sophomore interested particularly in M&A; do M&A and RX recruit separately or is the summer analyst program generalist? Any other insights on networking/interviews would be greatly appreciated
M&A and RX recruit separately. M&A is a generalist SA offer so it’s all M&A but across industries. Very technical first round interviews with analysts/associates. Networking is very important
M&A and RX are separate. Don't apply to both; you're likely to get rejected from both doing that. If you're a good candidate, you'll get first rounds, but they'll ask you about what you're actually interested in doing. If they don't like your answer, auto ding.
Network with a small number of people. You don't need to bother with casting a wide net, just get a good connection with 2-3 people. I networked with 1-2 analysts and got an offer as nondiversity, semitarget. Prep M&I 400 basics sections and realize you'll get unusual questions that aren't exactly along the lines of what you'd see in a guide
Thank you very much - confused on your last point tho? Prep m&i 400 obvi but how do you prepare for the atypical parts?
Understand M&I questions' underlying concepts, not just bullshit regurgitation. Don't have to be able to answer them fully, but be able to at least think through some of the M&I advanced questions to check you have an ok understanding of everything. Also helps if an analyst likes you enough to give you a mock interview, though this isn't absolutely necessary.
Not sure why people reduce their own chances and only apply to 1 group. Speaking from experience, I applied to multiple groups (3) at Evercore and got interviews at all. Granted I networked for each group but there's no reason why you shouldn't apply to M&A and RX to maximize your own chances.
The reason I rec not doing that though is because I've heard of past applicants getting heat for it. Seen people on WSO mention in previous years that they got the "Why RX and not M&A" or the reverse, give a mediocre answer, get an unfavorable response from the interviewer, and end up dinged. To be fair it's possible EVC is changing its attitude to that, or that those people just got unlucky and had weird interviewers
Good question on if we need to know RX content if our goal is M&A given the Generalist internship title.
It’s not generalist across products. M&A interns do M&A. No restructuring. However FWIW I was asked a debt waterfall question in my M&A interview
