If you highlight rows and go to data --> group, it creates little + / - signs on the side to keep track of everything. Instead of having a spreadsheet full of + / - signs, is there anyway to label those?

Thanks

Ohhh, ok. No, why would you need to name them? In the top left hand corner there will be numbered boxes, depending on which one you click it will collapse/expand a given level of grouped rows/columns.

What you can do is have a total row which is not hidden, that way you know whats hidden under it.

ie.

NA TOTAL SALES (is a sum of the below 3) -US Sales -Mexico Sales -Canada Sales

Europe TOTAL SALES (is a sum of the below 3) -UK Sales -Germany Sales -Belgium Sales

Asia TOTAL SALES (is a sum of the below 3) -China Sales -Japan Sales -Korea Sales

So you group all the sub-items which is each country. When you click the #1 it hides all the sub items and all you see is each region specific sales figure. When you click the #2 box, it expands all the country specific sales out.

It effectively names the group which resides under it.

Highlight the hidden rows by highlighting the cell above the rows, then hit Shift+Down to highlight hidden cells. Hit Alt-D-G-S to unhide the rows. If you want to hide the cells, simply highlight one of the cells in the group and hit Alt-D-G-H.

after you did ALT+D+G+G, to actually hide or unhide the grouped selection you do the following:

for colums: CTRL+) (to hide) CTRL+SHIFT+) (to unhide)

for rows: CTRL+( (to hide) CTRL+SHIFT+( (to unhide)
