You've got it all wrong. It's all about using the left thumb on the left control with your left middle finger on the left tab.

Heh, this made me laugh. How very true. Although, having spent part of my analyst program in Lotus 1-2-3 instead of Excel, I can say that to this day I still copy and paste with Cntrl-INS and Shift-INS so as not to accidentally trigger a macro that someone may have (sloppily) bound to the Cntrl-C or Cntrl-V keys.

 

I use my left pinky for the control key and my right ring finger for toggling. This way my left hand never falls out of rest position and my right hand is minimal distance away.

Who uses thumbs for anything other than the space bar? Strange.
