Exit opportunities for majority of work being equity offerings
I'll be working at a bank where the VAST majority of my work will be equity offerings and 144a transactions. I was wondering what kind of exit opportunities analysts with that kind of experience have? PE is my ultimate goal, but I know they want to see M&A work. Thoughts?
Typical deal size? Any industry focus?
Industrials group. Aero/defense, engineering, construction, and infrastructure. Very broad based. Upper MM bank. Good amount of private placements in the deal flow. Was told by Senior MD that the group has had the best deal flow in the bank the past two years.
Unfortunately, it'll be tough to make a transistion to PE. Nothing is impossible, though, but usually IPO's, follow-on offerings, and private placements or PIPEs are just not applicable skills to PE. Any particular reason you decided on this particular group in the bank? Will you get any M&A experience at all?
What role are you playing in the equity offerings? Are you sole bookrunners or are you mostly co-managers. Are you getting any interaction with management? If so, maybe there's a little bit of intangibles you can bring to the table, but not much.
