Exit opps for corporate strategy
What are the exit opps of doing corporate strategy type of work out of college for a fortune 50 company? The group is pretty prestigious, and mainly hires HYP kids. The type of work I am doing will consist of DCF models and cash flow models.
Would it be possible to jump into an investment bank after this?\
I would also rather not go to business school but that is subject to change in the future.
I think the main issue is that "Exit opp" is really a banking term - besides consulting and banking, i have never heard about jobs that people take solely with the goal of leaving.
Corporate Strategy/Corporate Development is typically your "Exit opp". You are already saying that most of your co-workers have IB backgrounds.
Most of my friends on corporate strategy/corporate development either stays in that field or exits to "normal" business roles - heading departments, becoming CFO's or COO's (depending on level could also be COO/CEO/CFO track at more junior levels.). very similar "exits" as the strategy consultants I work with - just typically within the same company, rather than at a clients.
Yes it is possible to go from corporate strategy to IB/consulting, but probably easier to do it through an MBA, at least it in the US.
In the end, if you are well connected, smart, interviews well, have a great resume and the bank is short a spot for off cycle - then why not? I have seen a lot of lawyers make the jump to Associate without and MBA, so i cant see why corporate strategy/development could not? probably easier if you have some good deal experience though!
It is probably easier to make the switch to consulting than banking - but if you dont try you will never know.
