My bank uses Microsoft Teams for internal messaging - the 'online' or 'away' statuses annoy the heck out of me.
It's 2022 man, shouldn't we promote the anti-facetime culture?

All the juniors in my group are just perma offline on Teams
Bro open excel and leave your mouse on the space bar, the infinite space typing will keep you online.
If your bank uses monitoring software then it will catch this. The empty teams meeting method is the best one I know of
Where I intended this summer, most FT analysts had their teams status always set to offline
Only exception was for “in a meeting”
I once had random playlists of YouTube videos playing in the background on 0.25x speed for hours so it wouldn’t go completely offline…in hindsight the space bar thing is easier.

This used to work for me (I would find like 10 hour playlist videos) but stopped working when my bank switched to Teams, I go offline at the same speed as without the video. might be an internal setting or Teams is just smarter
I used to try this by playing the 24 hour fireplace videos on YT but teams always pegs you as away even if your screen stays on… she’s a tricky one to dodge
Set your teams to offline permanently. Still be responsive and no one will care
At my bank the 2nd years are always offline, the 1st years usually get bold enough to do that around the 1 year mark. IMO it's stupid - know of a group on the street where everyone is asked to set it to offline which is appreciated
yeah the spacebar technique works well at home, but cant do that in the office (if i wanna leave the office for a walk / meal with others / heck, even an in-person meeting!)
Set your status to permanently offline as the others have said. I started in a group where this culture wasn't acceptable and it was miserable. We all bought mouse jigglers, which in retrospect was the dumbest garbage ever. We should have just joined together and set to offline or away permanently.
