Fake internship thoughts?
I’m getting an internship at a PE firm based in Boston - but my only actual responsibility as a “deal sourcing” intern is basically doing constant cold calling. I’m a freshman so I’m thinking about doing it to get a name on my resume but I’m worried someone will look at it and see how it was kind of stupid. I was thinking I’d just frame it as a sourcing search-fund esc role targeting companies with 1.5 to 15 million dollar revenue. Is this worth doing my freshman spring to add to my resume for recruitment next year? Please let me know thanks.
Did it back when I was a student, def worth it so that you show first experience in transactional finance. It's absolutely gonna be alienating and you might hate it (which I did), but I think that's what most people have to go through before moving to bigger firms and roles.
awesome thanks so much - definitely think I won’t be a fan of it. It’s unpaid and they’re asking for around 2-400 calls a week, so I think I’ll stick on the lower end of it and leave around April. Would that sounds reasonable/look good on my resume?
yes, just don't exaggerate what you did and if your unpaid walk away if they give you too much work
what happens during background checks tho if u js walk away and they do a reference call? Or does that js not happen
wont happen
i just got my SA offer and i had one of these my freshman summer. i talked about it a good amount in my interview for the offer i got any experience is good experience is what ive found out lol. if u can get a better and more relevant role go for it, otherwise I'd recommend sticking through with it. also maybe see if u can leverage it to get a freshman summer internship if ur doing this during spring
did you have any m&a internships? i’m a freshman right now and have 4 legit buyside experiences (part of 3 diff teams that manage live capital and search fund internship) and 1 business operations internship, but no m&a/ib and worried it might cook me down the line.
Dawg, most people have no M&A experience before Junior summer and most freshmen do not have 4 buyside internships before their 2nd year
Hate to be that guy but how did you get them? Are you actually doing anything? A piece of advice — if you are a freshman with 4 internships and hopefully a strong GPA, yet you’re still tweaking about recruiting, you need to chill. Kids get burned out or overdo it, and you might shoot yourself in the foot.
