File Organization with Claude (No Cowork)

My firm recently gave us Claude access through the desktop app (and the Excel/PPT plug-in) but we didn’t get Claude Cowork. Trying to figure out the best workflows.

Two main points im struggling with.

1. Project file management / persistent memory
Want to point Claude at a deal folder and have it read and interact with documents dynamically across sessions. Set up the filesystem MCP server in Desktop which helps, but losing context between sessions with no clean way to maintain project memory. And if I upload the documents and they get marked up, it’s tough to maintain version control on it.
2. When the project memory is built (I’ve been uploading the docs for now), any way to get the Claude for excel plug-in to have / query project knowledge? So I don’t have to keep telling it what to input ? (Projections, etc). Ideally I want it to query the project and find on its own.

2. No, the excel plug in has no memory besides the copy and paste instructions within excel. can't link to cowork or desktop app memory. you have to re-provide context everytime
