Finance Careers in NFL, NHL, NBA?

Curious if anyone knows if these leagues hire former bankers or PE associates to do investment management on behalf of the organization or corporate development for the league, or any other finance job.

I love sports and would be interested to hear if anyone knows of interesting careers that involve these leagues. I plan on going into IB then PE, but maybe in the long run I would do something like this. I've seen teams have VP of Finance and CFOs, but I'm not in love with accounting, so would appreciate any insight!

Yes but you and every other IB analyst and their brother is interested in these roles and there are very few seats. Assuming the stars don't align and you end up with a role at a league post IB, your best bet is to find a Corp dev / strategy role at another large media company and hope to apply to a league if an opportunity arises, or go to a PE fund that does a lot of sports investing (CVC, Redbird, etc), and try to go to a league from there.

it's probably pretty difficult but I've seen it happen before

there was a kid who did an analyst stint at a regional BB office and left to work for an NHL team in corp dev/strategy

I'm sure it's much more difficult to pull off in nyc, but if you're in a more niche city then it's pretty likely your MDs/Partners have connections with team owners
