Finance graduate offered an accounting job

i am a recent finance graduate (may 2020) i’m very passionate about the finance industry and i’ve always pictured how my post-graduation life would be work-wise. However, recently I got a job offer from my previous internship’s boss. He left the company I originally interned at and became a CEO of a broker company. All sounds good but at the interview I found out that it’s an accounting job. I don’t like accounting, and I’m afraid once I start my career with an accountant title it’ll stick with me forever. Also, accountants average salary is less than finance related roles(financial analysts). I was offered a below average salary.

I had two internships, a risk management internship, and a financial analyst internship. And I have a dual bachelors degree in finance. I’ve applied to many finance-related jobs but I haven’t heard back from them.

I know I don’t have many options right now and I should be grateful that I actually got offered a job in today’s circumstances but I want to be assured that starting as an accountant won’t affect my future career plans as a financial analyst/consultant. https://omegle.onl/

Having a job would be a good thing. Completely understand your concern about getting stuck. However, this is a first job. People change jobs many times over a career. People also change industries and types of jobs. I wouldn't worry about that so much. Consider a few things:

How desperate are you for a job? (financially and mentally) Are you confident you would get another offer within a few months (tough right now, I know)? Would you learn valuable skills from this job? Would they be transferable to something more pure finance related? Would you enjoy it? What's the upside of the job (pretty cool you were contacted by the CEO - maybe an unusual opportunity or maybe not)

Big picture thinking - have two friends who are CFOs of F500 companies. One came up through Big4 accounting / audit for 5 yrs before he moved to the finance department of a large co. Other never set foot in accounting. Many ways to skin a cat.

take the job but do whatever you can to leverage that job offer for another finance opportunity. yes, you can and will move jobs in the future but people sometimes don’t realize how much harder it is once the job market already sees you as an accountant. if I was you, I’d accept the job make sure you don’t get complacent and aggressively pursue finance other finance opportunities ASAP
