fingerprinting for background check

As part of a normal background screening, I was asked to send in my fingerprints (I have no criminal record) . I tried going to a local place, however, the machine had trouble reading them. I was then told that I could get it done at my office. When I tried to get it done at my office, but I was then told that their fingerprint system is down, and have to do it later again this week. Because there are certain deadlines for the background to be completed, HR told  me that I MAY be put on leave until this situation is resolved. I'm pretty anxious about this because I just started my career, and I feel that this situation isn't really my fault, since my company's own fingerprinting system wasn't even working. Is there a large chance that I actually do get put on leave and if so how long will it last? Does anyone have any insight into my situation? Thanks a bunch!

Sorry

(PS: Company told me that I can't go to a police station for  this and it needs to be done through the company's service - at bit of a bad explaination, but that's what I've been told more or less. Sorry for the rant - I'm sure that you will understand my anxiety in this situation
