FOF or Merchant IB

Just wondering what would offer better exit opps, FoF or a merchant IB gig?? I do plan to get an MBA or CFA with hopes of breaking into ER on the buyside. Please let me know what opportunity will best set me up for that.

Thanks in advance.

Assuming both are solid firms, I would go definitely go with merchant IB. Although the FOF position may be more of a "research" role it will probably be focused on manager research and indirect investing. I would think merchant IB would provide very good exit opps for buyside research, as merchant banking is pretty much synonymous with PE.

I don't have any experience in these fields so I would definitely try get others advice as well, but hopefully my rationale is accurate. Can anyone else comment?
