Folks on buyside / corporate: do you actually read the banker decks?

Feel like everyone asks this but never on this forum. Title says it all, to the people on the buy side / at corporates, do you actually read the pitch decks we send? I’m not talking about CIMs or MPs, I’m talking about bake off decks, sponsor books with targets, etc.

As a junior in PE, I read CIMs. It's mostly fluff, and I don't believe most of what it says, but I need to learn about the business and the CIM is the easiest way to do that. Also, at the junior level, my job is to put together a memo/deck about the company and why we should do the deal, and a CIM that does exactly that is extremely helpful for obvious reasons.

It depends a bit. Coverage books with random targets, no. Target specific book but not a real priority, a scroll through at best. Target specific book and a priority - if the call went well and you seem to know something, absolutely; if your MDs is talking out of his ass or we think you have no access then I’ll just read the comps pages. The coverage book target specific pages may be read in more detail down the line if a target becomes a priority at some point
