Forced to move or lateral under 7 days? (edited)

If a bank forces team to make the decision to move to a different city within 7 days or be locked out, how feasible would it be to "agree" to relocate but instead lateral somewhere else within 4-6 months and within same city? (nyc).

In this market I't be hard to do it in 7 weeks even…

Even in 2021 it would be a challenge. No bank will hire a candidate without interviewing others (may even be a policy), and taking into account 2-3x interviews it just doesn't add up.

This being said, nothing wrong with moving and then trying to lateral afterwards. Its not like you would be there for 5 years

Well, are they providing relocation assistance? Being forced to move in 7 days without any assistance seems strange.

No chance they just told OP "you have 7 days to move", if they did that'd be ludicrous. My guess is OP doesn't actually have 7 days to move, just make a decision, or they've been working remote in a different city knowing they'd have to move by a certain date and has been putting it off till the last possible second.

Like above mentioned reduce headcount (in this case offered to keep some knowing a chunk will decline.) I'm not sure how much sense it makes to shut down the NYC office of any IB

You sure this isn't just bad second-hand info? I heard 7 days to make a decision, not to move in 7 days. The bank is giving up to a year to relocate.

…Wait, Truist relocating business in 7 days? 15min to make a decision and you better be a quick packer, sure not too much leisure time this week to wrap things up while grinding. Sounds wild but better tell everyone!
