FT Generalist Program at Boutique
I just accepted a FT offer for a generalist program in NYC that I didn't previously intern at. I am wondering how does the group selection process usually work? I am specifically interested in one or two industries.
How do I increase my chances of being placed in a group that I like? Is there anything I should be doing before I start or chill and wait until I start working?
I would really appreciate any advice!

Is this an EB or a true boutique? To be honest, you probably don't have much say in group selection in your situation. I've rarely heard of generalist FT offers, usually they know they have 1 spot in HC to fill, 2 spots in M&A, etc and hire directly. There will be at absolute MAX 50-75 analysts in your class, and even that is only at the largest EBs, 90% of whom interned and accepted an offer to their group. Of the ~5 or probably less FT hires, they may just assign you to a group or have an informal group selection process. But it's not like interning where it is a true free for all.
It can't hurt to network with the groups you want and just casually show your interest and inquire if they've got any FT spots open. But I would be prepared to be assigned something other than your top choice.
I am at a true boutique. When I accepted my offer, I was told it would be for a generalist program.
How big is it? Any chance their entire program is generalist and analysts don't specialize? Have seen that at small to mid sized boutiques.
They have between 100 to 150 bankers. I've noticed that some analysts specialize and others don't.
