FT Recruiting Chicago
Does anyone have information on what groups have headcount open for banks in Chicago. Specifically looking for William Blair, PWP, Lincoln, HL and any other banks yall know that have presences in Chicago. Also happy to look into PE firms. I had an IB internship at a MM in NY this past summer and got a return but looking to go to Chicago as NY was way too overstimulating for me. Also, have all banks opened up apps or are some not open yet or even done recruiting for FT. Don’t have much insight into the FT process so looking for info.
Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know about FT recruiting and the Chicago IB scene:
William Blair: Headquartered in Chicago, William Blair has a significant presence across all verticals in the middle market. They are known for their strong deal flow and solid exit opportunities, particularly to middle-market PE firms. Their culture leans towards Midwest values, and they actively encourage analysts to stay on for Associate roles. Recruiting timelines can vary, so networking early is key.
PWP (Perella Weinberg Partners): PWP's Chicago office is relatively new and lean, focusing on mid-sized M&A deals. They are expected to grow in the coming years. Given their smaller size, headcount openings might be limited, so it's crucial to monitor their postings and network with current employees.
Lincoln International: Lincoln has a strong reputation in Chicago, particularly in healthcare and middle-market M&A. They are highly rated for professional growth opportunities and employee satisfaction. Their recruiting process is competitive, so reaching out to alumni or current employees can provide an edge.
Houlihan Lokey (HL): HL is well-respected in Chicago, with a strong presence in restructuring and other advisory services. They are a solid option for those looking to gain diverse deal experience.
Other Banks:
Private Equity (PE) Firms: Chicago has a robust PE scene, with firms like GTCR, Madison Dearborn Partners (MDP), and others being prominent players. Many analysts from William Blair, Greenhill, and other top Chicago IB shops have successfully transitioned to these firms.
Recruiting Timelines: FT recruiting can vary by bank. Some may have already opened or even completed their processes, while others might still be in progress. Networking with bankers at your target firms is crucial to get the most accurate and up-to-date information on headcount and timelines.
Given your prior MM IB experience in NY, you should leverage that to position yourself as a strong candidate for Chicago roles. Start networking immediately, as many firms prioritize internal referrals and connections during FT recruiting.
