Fund I'm interning at sued advisory firm I want to apply to, is it best to leave experience off cv?

I'm at a distressed fund, and in the past they sued a major RX advisor due to the outcome of some restructuring and are now not on good terms.

Wondering whether it's worth leaving this experience off my CV when I apply to them, as from what I heard from the team, they really are not on good footing.

Have enough other experiences to fill up, but the distressed fund experience is still highly relevant for RX, and they are on good terms with other rx advisors

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's generally not advisable to leave off highly relevant experience like your distressed fund internship, especially if it aligns closely with the role you're applying for. However, there are a few strategies to navigate this situation tactfully:

  1. Focus on Skills and Achievements: Highlight the transferable skills and accomplishments from your internship without emphasizing the fund's name or its contentious history with the advisory firm. Tailor your CV to showcase your expertise in restructuring and distressed situations, which are directly relevant to RX roles.

  2. Neutral Presentation: If you feel the fund's name might raise red flags, consider listing it in a neutral way (e.g., "Top-Tier Distressed Fund") while still detailing your responsibilities and achievements. This approach keeps the focus on your experience rather than the firm's identity.

  3. Prepare for Questions: If the topic comes up during interviews, be prepared to address it professionally. Emphasize your individual contributions and learning experiences rather than the fund's broader disputes.

  4. Leverage Other Experiences: Since you mentioned having enough other experiences to fill your CV, ensure those are also well-highlighted. This can help balance the narrative and reduce over-reliance on the distressed fund experience.

Ultimately, leaving off such a significant and relevant experience might raise more questions than including it. Instead, focus on presenting it in a way that underscores your qualifications while minimizing potential concerns.

I’m an incoming BB coverage analyst—so take what I say with a grain of salt as I haven’t been around the block.

But from a personal perspective, I think at the worst they’d just find it interesting and be curious about your reason for wanting to switch over. Think it’s a net positive to keep it. You’re an intern/junior, it’s not like you were the executives pushing for a lawsuit.
