Gap year at associate level

Let's say that you get your associate position, spend a year or bit less and you quit to do a gap year doing whatever the fuck you want but not working.

How bad would it be for your future?

Is it better to do it at analyst level?

Likely difficult - given the market conditions currently, I'm having trouble finding a lateral job even as an employed associate with several years of experience. I work at a mm on west coast doing tech, and I'm hoping to get into a better group on the east coast. However, I have not had as much time to thoroughly do interview prep with how many hours I have to work each week, and I am often I'm too tired on the weekends to open my interview guides, so my answers to questions may be a bit rusty compared to when I had more time.

Overall, opportunities are sparse and its difficult to get interviews. I apply to places every day and there are hundreds of candidates applying to each listing within 1-2 days. Compared to a few years ago, when I was in a similar spot looking to lateral, I was able to get dozens of interviews with only 1 YoE.
