Getting a Decent Sophomore Summer Offer as Non-Diversity

Trying to land at a well-known firm for my sophomore summer (2022) but I don't qualify for diversity programs. Some stats:

Super non-target, 4.0 GPA, good leadership/extracurriculars. 2 IB/PE internships done, doing PE internship currently, and another IB internship coming up in spring.

Where should I aim for a sophomore summer internship? End goal is NY/SF/LA, BB/EB for junior summer so trying to best position myself now by securing that last offer before SA 2023 recruiting.

Thanks

Literally any local shop where your title is pe, ib, ge, or hf summer analyst or intern. If you can’t get that, a big Fortune 500 internship or big 4 sophomore program. Anything competitive, even if not finance is good. MBB sophomore programs, big AM programs, and random things like critical language scholarship come to mind. Otherwise, high level sports training (Olympics, national teams, world champions)

Assuming you’re not a woman (bc only in finance are women “diversity”) but if you are, 100% GWI.

Yup, not a woman and def not athletic enough for any high-level training lol. Would you say any of those roles look better than the others (e.g. big 4 soph program > local boutique IB), or do they hold about the same weight?

Thanks for the tips bro, appreciate it.

Closer to banking the better so local shop is probably better. But it depends on your long term goals as well as what you’ve already done. You can always spin in, especially because recruiting takes place sophomore spring before your sophomore summer even takes place and then again for full time.

Seems like you’ve already got some legit experience though. Can you go back to any of the places you’ve already interned, otherwise try and make it look like you are moving up. A different approach is interning with an ipo or M&A advisory firm or something so you can see a deal through a different lens.

Honestly your resume is stacked so just find something you enjoy, it honestly doesn’t matter much. Still shoot your shot at all sophomore banking programs you qualify for.
