Getting a summer internship in NY as European

Hi,

I know already. Getting into IB is hard, getting into wall street is harder, and getting into WS as a foreigner without any visa is impossible.

However, I will be doing an off cycle 6 month internship in IBD coverage at BNP in HQ (Paris) in spring 2025.

My uni has this partner instituion that sponsors J1 visa and health insurance for a fee that I could do.

So technically, especially assuming if my performance is excpetional in the team, I could try to network with maybe French ppl in NY and move 'internally' within BNP to 'extend' my internship over the summer. I know classic early US recruitment has already closed, so they probably have intern already. For the sake of the experience, I would even consider unpaid.

How realistic do you think this is? Do you think I could only realistically consider the same coverage group just in NY or try to get into M&A (which I think highly unlikely because my coverage groups does little M&A)

Thanks!

Ps: summer internship period has kinda closed and i have nothing. and i am not allowed to extend any internship in bnp in france in another team (illegal by law, not allowed to intern for more than 6 month at any single company). Alternatives include trying to find an ad hoc summer internship in m&a in france at another bank (hard because ad hoc), or try bnp team in london or maybe milan ad hoc again but access to network internally
