Getting cursed out by your boss
There comes a point where it’s like, yeah this can’t be normal, especially when it’s not that serious. Was not a live deal or anything, just a pitch. Curious to hear other stories on extreme cases.

Really sorry you’re going through this nobody should experience that. Obviously getting cursed is never justified but out of curiosity what exactly did you do? And is he like that to everybody?
If you’re an analyst 2 with a good reputation then I feel like it’s a one off. Did you have a good rep before this?
Didn’t understand a specific thing on an analysis we were showing
I have been there and it’s brutal.
lol whats normal or not normal isnt up for you to decide. ib is full of gooners that will chew you out. if you dont like the industry leave. thats always been the culture
most if not all ibers will have a chip and chew you out lmao. i remember getting chewed out by an assistant for not registering my licenses and i kept laughing in her face till she exploded and i just laughed and walked away
definitely odd. I’m a first analyst and make mistakes here and there. My associates just put in comments to fix or reword certain things.
They care I mess up something small rather than extremely material at this point. Some of the edits seem dumb to me but others make sense and easily learn from.
Take it on the chin, the VP is leaving, like a commenter above, you can recruit and get better at the same time
During my first evening in IB, a MD pulled me into a conference room and cussed me out for messing up a single chart slide that I was bound to get wrong (all non-public data). Some people are just assholes, wouldn't take it personally.
Lol yeah I could care less, but it was so degrading that made me actually be like yo this is nuts 🤣😂
My experience is that any boss who can't control their emotions in those situations, or is doing that as some intimidation tactic, is such a loser anyways. Cussing out someone just shows them as a petulant child.
What happened lol?
There is no justification for attacking someone’s dignity. Such behavior is often a way of offloading personal frustration onto an easy target (i.e. you are used to regulate emotion bc doing so internally like an adult is too difficult for him).
