Goldman 2008 Summer Analyst Offers

I received a verbal offer last Friday, but while I'm waiting for my offer package I was wondering how summer analysts are placed. Does GS typically give group specific offers or do they give the candidate the option to pick his top group choices?

and other info will probably arrive soon. Included will be a form asking you to list your top 3 groups. Basically, it is a crap shoot for you. So don't sweat it. The groups review resumes and list their top candidates. If you have a contact or alumni in a group you really want, perhaps you can drop them an e-mail that you will be applying.

Best of luck.

Goldman usually has you make your top choices on their superday; they let you rank either subdivisions as a whole, or the groups within them if you actually know what they are. I would recommend ranking the groups so that it shows you know exactly want to do this summer. What division did you get the offer for?

As has been said, it's pretty much a crapshoot. A lot of it also depends on who you know/alums in the group. If you're going for a highly sought after group just hope for the best.
