Good Looks & Case Comps (?) First Post

Hello WSO,

This is my first post on here even though I've lurked for a while. Firstly, thank you to everyone for all the good info. Now, my inquiries:

1. Case Comps?

I'm currently a sophomore at a non-target on the West Coast - this means that I've got an uphill battle to fight to get to IB/PE/HF. I was looking at case comps as a way to make myself more noticeable and give myself an edge over the rest of the non-target crowd. From what I've read on WSO, case comps seem to be seen at best as a resume filler and at worst as a waste of time. Why? Obviously Bill & Bob local case comps are useless, but what about CBS (https://www.  casecompetition  .com/) or Duff & Phelps YOUniversity Business Challenge (https://careers.  duffandphelps  .jobs/youniversity)? Will those make me stand out?

2. Good Looks (HAHHAHHAHAHAHHA)

This one's a weird one. And no, I'm not a hot chick trying to use looks to get in - the opposite actually. I recently had a coffee chat with a guy who attended the same Uni as me and now works at a BB (think Wells/Citi/etc.). He said that I will have a very hard time getting a position in IB/PE/HF because of my looks.

Just for context - I was a boxer for 11 years (since 9 years old) and a rugby player for almost 7. Both my ears are cauliflowered - my right is human(ish), my left is unrecognizable. I have scars on both my eyebrows from stitches - the left is very visible. And my nose isn't straight - think normal nose T and my nose T.

I've never actually thought about this much - most girls seemed to like the rough look.

Was this guy just a dick or will I actually be discriminated against due to my looks?

Thanks in advance,

Chris P. Bacon
