Got a first round interview next week for two bot. IBs -- looking for some help

Hey everyone,

Has anyone heard of the below two IBs:

Sherman & Co. Janes Capital Partners

I have a first round phone interview with them next week. These two interviews are my first ever IB analyst interviews, so I was wondering if anyone could give me any insight on potential questions they may ask. I'm just looking to get my foot in the door and break into IB, as I know these two IBs are fairly small. Thanks in advance!

Are these for this summer?

Congratulations!!!!!

I will write more when I have free time but a few quick tips.

1) BE PREPARED!!!! - Know the firms, know why you want to work in IB, read up on their financials and recent deals, know a few fit questions

2) DO NOT MEMORIZE - do not memorize fit answers OR technicals. Understand what you are saying, you will sound more sincere.

3) DO NOT GET YOUR HOPES UP! You can be amazing but they could already be set on hiring someone or whatever, when you get your hopes up any rejection will be ten times worse.

4) If these are your first IB interviews - they will ask you why you never did IB before. Be able to show how your relevant experiences are just that relevant and can provide the firm value.

5) Practice in a mirror if you have too or do a mock interview if you can.

Good luck and I wish you the best. I have been in your position before and it can be daunting, I know how it feels. I hope you get the position.

Good luck, brother.

The difference between successful people and others is largely a habit - a controlled habit of doing every task better, faster and more efficiently.

Buy the WSO guides and be sure you have a handle on at least the most basic questions (linking financial statements, valuation methodologies, walking through a DCF, etc). As prudentinvestor said, try and understand the questions and not just memorize them. Have a clear grasp of everything on your resume and don't exaggerate because you will likely have to back it up. Go look at the company's recent transactions and read up on the industry they specialize in. Prepare a few good questions to ask at the end of the interview.

Also go through M&I's articles on interviews and have a very good story explaining why you want to do IB. GL
