Got Dinged. How do I maintain contact with my interviewer?

So..I was dinged. I felt the interview went well, but its some things out of my control. The person interviewing me said he enjoyed my story, I had a strong resume, etc. After the interview I asked to stay in touch and he provided his email and even went so far to provide me with two numbers to reach him at, so I don't think he thought I was unqualified/weak candidate.

So How do I maintain contact with him? I've already been dinged so not sure what to say to him.

Give him a call or e-mail and thank him again for the opportunity. Mention that you enjoyed meeting him and spending time with him. Tell him that you have some other interviews coming up, and while things didn't work out with his firm you were hoping the two of you could meet for coffee or speak on the phone so he could give you some constructive criticism and help learn from your mistakes for the next interview.

Pike and Rupert are on target. I always ask for feedback, and while most times you'll got rejected, once I actually got a phone call from my interviewer who chatted with me for 15 min about what I did right and wrong. It's worth a shot, you have nothing to lose, except maybe a handful of minutes

I don't talk to people's I've dinged and our HR team strongly recommends the same (possibly even requires it, I can't remember).

It will quickly and inevitably lead to a conversation on "why was I dinged". The risk of litigation in that conversation, particularly in a county as litigious as the US, is way too high.

If any of my team mates did speak with kids who had been dinged after interview them, that would be a red flag on the team member as "does not have common sense".

Those who can, do. Those who can't, post threads about how to do it on WSO.
