Got job at a Private Equity Firm, no experience, what to do?
Hi everyone, so I just got an "Operations Associate" Position at a small private equity firm. It pays $46,000.
Now I am very grateful for this position, even though you all consider it shit . Mind you, I am a former part-time lab tech and tutor, so this is a step up .
Here's the thing: I have never taken a finance course and I don't know a thing about finance.
I don't even know what the fuck I'll be doing. I'm just now looking up the job title on Google.
My question is, what should I do to prepare for the position? It starts in a bit over a week.
I want to use this as a platform to jump to a better company.
Thank you all so much. Thanks a lot for the networking advise. To be honest, I came here to troll a bit, but I listened to all the advice here and networking like mad and now I managed to land a job.
Do you have a copy of the job description? That would make it easier to provide advice. In general, I would recommend reading up on the industry/industries your fund invests in and work on excel skills if you haven't already.
It does early stage bio-tech, which I know a lot about. Their was no job description. I cold called them.
I am curious, is it possible to get a position at a BB or top PE firm from this position, if I work hard and network?
Still hate you
Congrats. You and I are both proof that life is really just a big Mr. Magoo cartoon.
