Group choice

I did mention this in another thread, but it was horribly off-topic, so I thought I'd start a new thread.

After my final round interviews for summer analyst position, the MD that I got along best with during the day called me up to extend the offer of employment for the summer. He said he'd love for me to come work in his team, but he'd understand if I wanted to work somewhere else (another team, or another bank). I assumed this was a normal tactic in IB recruitment to make candidates feel wanted and loved (in hopes that you'll choose the bank in question). What's your view on this? Could he have just left the call to HR, and should I respect his comments by placing his team as my top choice (note: it's a good group and I really did like the guy).

Your neurotic inquisitiveness reminds me of my collegiate intern days. lol....

Tactic or not, they seem to like you and bottom line, that's a good thing. Yes, he could have let HR call, but he probably wanted to attempt to sway you even more onto their side by making the call himself. Unless you have other offers that you are strongly considering, it sounds like this may be a good fit for you.
