It seems like you already know what you have to do (e.g. "I didn't network effectively").

Now's your chance to network effectively. Go get it done. Hit up anybody in your contact list and reach for references/coffee meets/calls.

Given what you've done the past 4-5 yrs, if you still want banking it might be best if you do it post-MBA. Do you have a full-time job lined up? Do you have a compelling enough story why you got interested in banking (other than money, prestige and the like)?

breaking into MM or BB will be extremely difficult if not impossible right now especially since a new wave of analysts are about to be enslaved.

it is still possible to get a position at a boutique, but i would advise against putting all of your eggs in one basket. if i were in your position, i would work in related fields: anything finance/accounting related and look for lateral positions after 6 months - 1 year.

your gpa is good, and with relevant experience, you will definitely get looked at.

you'd be surprised how many lateral positions open up due to various reasons

When would you say most lateral positions open up? I know it's pretty random but when do most of them exist? July - Sept?
