Hardcore Drugs in IB?
Work with an associate who acts like a complete maniac, he's definitely on something. His skittishness makes me uncomfortable and worried about the guys health. I know adderall/weed is normal but are there consistent users of coke, meth, etc. in the industry?
Yes i frequently hit my meth pen in the bathroom stall at work
In London I have seen people consume cocaine during an after work event. So, not during office hours.
Other than that, no clue. I don't think it's as bad as people say it is. most of my colleagues are regular folks who are married /w family.
That's gross. I hope I never run into them.
Edit: Why are you smackheads throwing MS? It's a completely unregulated industry where kids are killed, manipulated, and whatever else. These gangs who traffic these drugs also traffic women and children to be sex slaves. Buying and taking these drugs directly gives them the money to keep doing it. Fucking grow up, it's not cool to do drugs.
Found the Pierpoint & Co. banker
there are an actual subsection of ""productive"" drug users who regularly use meth, so might be that. adderall is pretty much meth lite anyway
Definitely a lot of undercover coke heads out there. Trust me I know, my team is full of them
You know you have a problem if you don’t consider coke a hard drug
*consistent users of coke, meth, etc.
How consistent are we talking about
LOL I thought this about myself when reading OP
Coke is a regular.... have you been under a rock?
know a nice pretty clean well-off girl from top target school who does coke
Studied at target in UK and 90% of the kids that went IB do coke on a weekly basis, kind of sad tbh
Finance and any other job that middle class white guys congregate in (Law, recruitment etc.) are full of cokeheads. At least among juniors.
From my friends / experience it has been in IB only and mostly MM firms. I have not seen any in consulting or asset management, don’t know that many people doing law to confirm.
Which kind of IB? At a BB and very few do it
have seen people come into the office high, seen people get high during the work day in the office and know plenty of grad analysts - directors who are heavy drug users MD / Coke / Weed / Ketamine (using every week)
A director in my team is a frequent MDMA and coke user (has had many nose bleeds in the office) and know plenty of analysts who took money off seniors to buy drugs for them.
This is a top boutique in London.
I know a few people who have acted like meth addicts - exactly the behavior you're describing - just from the lack of sleep, stress, and heavy use of caffeine. They became completely different people once they left banking. Unless you have other reason to suspect drugs I'd say this is extreme stress
I came from Canada where usage of Coke beyond very junior (like 22 year olds) folks at IB was pretty unusual. It's a lot more normal in NYC now that I'm here. This job already trashes your body so adding regular coke use on that is like asking for heart failure later in life.
Zyn ftw
I've found my people
