Have an analyst's number
So i spoke with an analyst and asked him to connect me with someone else. He gave me the guy's number. I don't want to cold call him. is it inappropriate to text this guy? or should I email him?

I think you can text him, esp. if you are close with whoever referred you to him.
I am not close with the person who referred me. I just spoke on the phone with him
I'd text instead of calling
I am going to go the other route here and say to email him. I get that you essentially got a warm introduction to the guy, and his number was given to you by one of his colleagues, but I would still find it odd if someone I never met texted me asking to network.
This, ask the analyst you spoke with to give you his email address and go on from there
Presumably you can get his name then use the email convention. I want to change my answer to agree here
I'd email him because it's more formal. I'd wait a couple of days and then call if he or she doesn't reply back. What's the point of networking for a job if you're scared to do it?
email him to set up a call, and text him a reminder.
