Hedge Fund Internship
I might have an opportunity to intern at a really good NY hedge fund as a university first or second year , would this reflect positively on IB or PE chances out of UG , especially in the UK?

I'd rather not say but its a prominent, primarily Quant fund.
So DE Shaw / Citadel / AQR / Jane Street
Jane Street isn't a hedge fund
No , its a smaller one , about 5 or 10 bn AUM , more niche but very well known in the industry
Any finance internship for the summer after first and / or second year is generally a good thing. Unless you have something else that is more IB related, I wouldn't hesitate to move forward with this.

Might be a bit suspect since it's very non-standard but yeah, any finance experience is good. Be prepared to answer questions on why you would like to do IB/PE instead of HF.
Honestly if I were to do your interview I would actually go a bit tougher on you to verify you are prepared, because a HF internship during UG really smells of powerful contacts, so I would assume you also got the interview through contacts. Nothing wrong with contacts if you have the preparation to back it up
