help needed in ugrad school choice
Hi WSO, I am Jose, a rising senior in Dallas TX, i am interested in IBD and want to know which out of the following schools would be the best choice for me as a safety ( I am applying to Stern, UVA, Ross preferred, etc and want a safe school just in case). my stats are 2230 sat and 3.73 gpa, after running the NPC, i found the cost of these schools as
Villanova 25k, IU Kelley 40k, Tulane 17k, Northeastern 10k
Which of these schools would be the best deal , both in terms of career prospects and financial safety, and suggest some safeties if possible.
Thanks and Regards
Jose
Don't go to Northeastern. Even the co-op program is great, its got few alums on the street, better to focus on villanova or IU in my view
IU Kelley and Villanova are decent safeties but between them IU Kelley is a much better safety and places very well in recruiting .
Stern and Ross Preferred Admit would be high reaches and UVA would be a low reach since you are applying out of state.
qwertyzxc any other decent schools ( target or semi target ) that may be within my reach in your opinion that I should apply to? thanks for the advice.
IU and Villanova, and the application is only $75. You'll get into both, but with your score, it's worth applying to both just for the potential scholarships you could get offered.
Any other semi targets or targets with decent OCR I should apply to? Thanks for the advice.
I may be in the minority here, but I actually like Tulane (I'm not a Tulane alum or related to the school in any way.) It doesn't have great representation in NYC IB, but it places solidly into Texas IB as well as energy trading (which I expect to pick up by the time you graduate college.) However, I would not call it a "safety school" as it's not easy to get into.
And you're not applying to McCombs, the cheapest of all the schools you mentioned even with no scholarship?
Obviously not a safety school and if you're in public school and aren't in the top 8% then it's a big uphill battle, but it's THE target for energy banking.
@BTOWN unfortunately im ranked 71 out of 982, so my rank would make it hard to get McCombs, but I am assured admission into Econ and I might try to transfer to McCombs from there
I feel ya. I know people who were outside the top 10% that got into both UT and McCombs. I don't know how because they aren't of Native American descent or had done anything super impressive in HS, but they got in. Write good essays, get in front of the McCombs admission staff, have good ECs, etc and you'll have a shot.
