Hong Kong/China: ECM to IBD/PE in Tier 1 Bank

Hi all I have just received an ECM summer intern offer from a tier 1 bank (GS/MS) in Asia. Personally I would like to be internally transferred/lateral hired to industry coverage team and finally to PE in Hong Kong or Mainland China. Any insights would be highly appreciated.

  • What's the process of internal transfer/lateral hiring? i.e. headcount, application, etc.
  • How could I horn my skillset in ECM so as to prepare for IBD/PE recruiting?
  • I also have an offer from IBD in tier 2 bank (Barclays/Nomura/HSBC). Is it wise enough to choose ECM in GS/MS if my long-term plan is PE?

Thanks a lot.
