Houston banking Gods ?

Real quick did my last summer internship in nyc (got return offer). Enjoyed it love nyc will probably do ib as I really really saw no issue with it. My question is if I’m going to be a long term banker should I try networking into Houston. I mean is it true that Jerr/Evr/Moelis pay the same all the way up  the ranks on par with nyc? If so I’m thinking I should head down idc about wlb. I was already in a known sweaty group for nyc. Might as well keep more money eh?

Some Houston groups actually pay more than their New York counterparts. Jefferies is a good example. Its Houston group had a separate bonus pool and paid second-year analysts $300K back in around 2017/18

In 2024, the analyst bonus pool was merged with New York’s, and bonuses were shit. But after Ralph Eads came back, Houston got its own bonus pool again, so the bonus rebounded in 2025

By “came back,” I mean Ralph saw that the pay situation had gotten bad: analysts were leaving Jefferies for JPM and HL Dallas before their clawbacks kicked in because they could earn more elsewhere while working less. He pushed to get analysts paid more

Preston has also been pushing for better analyst pay. The analyst-to-associate bonus is at least above average, which helps explain why FH, KG, and LT stayed on and made the jump

Comp at Moel and Evr will be slightly higher but the lifestyle and stress will be 1000x better than at Jef. Unless you want to be paid for time in seat avoid Jef. The talent there has gone elsewhere and they barely still have a tech team so you just get stuck formatting their work and waiting for fire-drill after fire-drill.

Jefferies barely has an engineering team? Name one bank with a stronger technical team

Yes, some engineers left for EIV, Eapada, and X2, but JEFF still has plenty of strong engineers. RBC/MOE/EVR have spent five years trying to replicate Jefferies’ model, and none has pulled it off

Richardson Barr (RBC’s technical team—not sure if you know of them because you seem like a dimwit) is easily on par with Jefferies lmfao
