How "bad" is HW? It's a tier 2 MM firm, tier 1 if you are in HC or consumer products (sweaty groups). They actually pay very very well - often above street - but MM PE will probably be your best exit opp
I think this is selling them short. They focus primarily on sponsor to sponsor deals in the MM. pay above the street. Strong deal flow.
But very much middle market and respected in that market. Problem is they’re in Richmond - unprestigious. Why is anyone in Richmond?
No I actually agree, tried to give a pretty neutral overview of the perception of HW, they are very very solid. I actually found the title really weird… how “bad” is HW?? They’re a great MM firm lol

So many forums on HW with alot of good information. Solid MM bank that dominates MM sell side. Constantly pays above street and MDs literally set up analysts with MM PE exits. Good culture with lots of reps. Source: Previous forums and I've coffee chatted with a couple of bankers from there.
Seconded on the exits thing: the analysts I've spoken to have all mentioned that HW is actually supportive of buyside recruiting, which has made a big difference in their experience there.
From what I've heard it's exactly "what you see is what you get" Ive heard pretty solid things about them. When I first asked a buddy about getting into IB he told me that Harris Williams has a lot of military guys. Ive also heard Comp is decent there.

I had a FT offer from them and i ended up taking a BB for the prestige. I feel like my quality of life is prolly worse and my bonus would’ve been better, problem was I wanted to live in NYC lol

I mean I think their PCA team is in NYC, but not sure about how strong the deal flow is for the team
