RBC’s energy group is beating us on pretty much every advisory / financing role. How did they become so good? Who are the rainmakers at RBC?

Lenders committed to energy = good favor with clients. Also have a high # of MDs compared to peers. Solid group and as you know biz ebbs and flows but they’ve hit a number of doubles and triples last 2 years
They grabbed Tim Perry from CS. That guy built the CS energy franchise and easily one of the top rainmakers in Houston.
I don't get the MS here. Yes he's close to retirement probably (went to a Vice Chairman role) but picking up Tim Perry is a big coup for them.

Normally it’s us, RBC and a handful of other banks (JPM, GS, Morgan Stanley). RBC is beating all of us for asset level deals.
