How do I find purpose?

I don't have a spreadsheet to share or a witty comment to make about SVB,

Recently I entered my first year of university. I'm studying finance and was set on investment banking since the start of high school. Perhaps it was the prestige, the money, and the well-tailored suits behind major deals that all but encaptivated my attention.

My thoughts would constantly evaluate my future outcomes: 3 years analyst, 3 years associate... then I'd make VP and MD.. I'd be a partner in no time

Having let go of my tunnelled mindset entering in uni after being opened up to a network of incredible mentors I wanted to turn here and ask about purpose. How does purpose define what drives you in a financial career?

Knowing that IB/PE/HF careers are often taken by those with an incredible drive and execution power rivalling the very top of individuals, why is it that these careers captivate us?
