*** How do I follow-up with the CIO of GS regarding my resume ***

Hello Everyone!

Background Story:

I was fortunate to meet him and his family at his residence in upstate NY. My fiancé's father works as a carpenter and was given the contract to restructure certain things in their villa. My future father-in-law and his wife grew up in the same town and are very good friends. When I heard that he was the CIO of GS, I took the opportunity to work(volunteer) with my future father-in-law at their house for 3 days so that I could meet him in person. The plan worked. He was very humble, kind and shared his personal email ID to send my resume. He replied back in about 3 weeks 'promising' that he'll look into it and thanking me for sending the resume.

My worry is that it's been 2 months now. I understand that he recently took over as CIO and is extremely busy or may be he must have forgotten about my case.

My questions/doubts are (where I'm seeking advise from all of you):

  1. Is it rude and disrespectful to send him a follow-up even after he said 'I promise you I'll look into it'?

  2. How does the referral work? Especially when the positions are filled up?
