How do you guys manage with such little sleep?

AN1 at a top tech group, and I got stadfed basically immediately. The work itself isn't bad, and my team is pretty chill. Anyways I'm working ~110 hours a week and I'm getting like 5 hours of sleep at best. The stress itself is manageable, and I expected it. Bout the 5 hours a day has gotten me to the point where I'm struggling to think, and basic stuff is like an impossible challenge. I started taking caffeine pills, and that's barely helping if at all, and I'll just stare at text like I'm illiterate. My team has basically told me to grind it out, is there anything I can do to help the sleep deprivation?

Sorry if this is unintelligible, would really appreciate any help or tips

yea try to take care of yourself and have fun during the free time you get. I even got into religion/spirituality which helped me. Exercise if you like. Eat as well as you can whatever you enjoy

That should hopefully help your body and soul feel better about the grind. Worst case just quit or something or say something to your teammates. Please don’t push yourself to the hospital limit or worse God forbid

Good luck

Not sure if this is a venue to have a religious discussion but I think many schools of thought with regards to God recognize that God has a higher wisdom than man. What man may think is good for him or bad for him, God may think otherwise. I understand part of religion is submitting to God’s will and seeking ways to try to improve ourselves to better do God’s work in the world. I hope this helps. Please don’t MS me for trying to help answer and question / respond to a comment in my comment.

But yes if a person cannot function on 5 hours of sleep and needs rest for their health, I would think God wants them to sleep and be healthy. Can’t serve God while dead. Maybe best to quit the job if possible or find some ways to improve your health / sleeping situation ASAP, then figure out why you got yourself into such a messy situation. Or why God put you there. Idk 🤷

Good luck 🙏🏼

Peace 🙏🏼

Okay. Adding some other ideas here on how it seems to actually work out

168 hours in a week. 110 working leaves like 50 hours left or 7 hours per day

The crux is that you cut out EVERYTHING in your life besides (1) work and (2) sleep. Hey I even slept at my desk multiple times at 3pm. Sometimes involuntarily like my head would just fall and I would be so drowsy I would just fall asleep. No one seemed to have an issue with it.

The cutting out everything means no hobbies, no gym, no family, no friends, no sports, no TV, no social life, no going out, etc. the adjustment is that is regular for people to have “outside” obligations. For example my family (parents) still needed me outside of work to like call them, tend to them etc. they were upset when I physically was not able to do that due to exhaustion. I would even have a GF at the time and be falling asleep during a weekend lunch with her and friends. Basically just do whatever you need to do for work and then try as quickly as possible to get horizontal in your bed for rest so that you can get vertical again to work again

That’s one way of getting through a 110 hour work stretch. I hope this adds some more ideas and perspectives to you.  good luck.

But yea on the sleep deprivation affecting your cognitive ability I hear that. You can flag that to your team if they have you doing more mentally challenging stuff. Like sometimes it may be like sorrr you’re just too mentally drained or vegged out rn to think. You can like blindly process very specific formatting changes and moving logos to align and low level AI stuff but to think and make new creates may be something for a higher level like associate who is getting more sleep to do.

Again good luck. I hope you can get through it soon in a healthy good way

You are just 2 hours away from 7 hours of sleep a night.

I am not in your shoes, but is there anyway you can "slack" and not do an additional 2 hours of work a day? Shoot for mid-bucket instead of top?

I could hypothetically slack off an hour a day, maybe come 30min later and try to sneak out. However aiming for mid bucket isn’t really an option, as the difference between top bucket and mid bucket is massive for my group.

The difficult part is my 30min 1-way commute. I found a decent place to rent where k pay ~30% of a comparable place 5-10min from work. I was doing the math, and the amount I save is sizable enough justify the commute, especially since I haven’t cooked in months, and have no real need or use for amenities. It’s just a premium I’d pay for no benefit.

As I’m typing this, I just thought of paying for an uber, where I could sleep in, Will do the math to see how much I will pay for having the ability to sleep otw.
