How does making Partner work at non BB banks?

Very straightforward question for everyone. Usually, at BBs, you'd climb the ladder to MD and then have a chance at Partner.

Is it the same process for non-BB banks such as the Big 5s (RBC, BMO, TD, Scotia, CIBC), MM banks and EBs?

Thanks

Do the Big 5 take people from their MD pool to make Partner?

Is the process to become Partner at an IB firm such as a BB the same as a smaller bank where they have less positions or a Big 5 which have other operations such as Commercial Banking?
